Migration Gravel Race in Masai Mara, Kenya
Will Ross, December 21, 2024
The Migration Gravel Race (MGR), held annually during June in Kenya, combines adventure, endurance, and a celebration of the country’s wildlife and culture. The race typically covers distances of up to 650 kilometres across the four day, and was created by Team AMANI, a crew of the best riders in East Africa.
Set against the backdrop of the Great Migration in the Maasai Mara south of Nairobi, participants ride through diverse landscapes, including savanna, forests, and rugged terrains, while encountering wildlife such as wildebeests, zebras, and elephants.
Two routes are available: the Leopard, a full-length, high-tempo race, and the Zebra, a shorter, more accessible option. Total climbing metres for the Leopard in the 2025 edition is 8,000m.
Watch the Rapha Films video profiling riders of Team AMANI and Black Mambas Development Squad, Migration is an insight into the work of AMANI and how this incredible race is symbolic of the Team’s character and ambition.
Nairobi is the nearest airport – race organisers arrange transport from Nairobi to the race start.
