Mama Shelter in Lyon, France
Will Ross, September 18, 2024
France’s gastronomic capital is served well with a Mama Shelter, located south of the train station within walking distance of highlight food, drink and athletic facilities. Despite the mischievous reception area and general brand image, Mama Shelter rooms are clean, spacious and well located – always slightly off centre but within striking distance of what Lyon has to offer.
Considering its Michelin prestige, Siprès is low-key and good for lunch and dinner. Later evenings can continue at the speakeasy Le Passage, part of a complex by the same name. Coffee is found at Diploid and La Boite a Cafe.
Runners can use the riverfront which is paved and safe. Indoor track at Halle Stéphane Diagana Athletics is worth noting – reasonably central. Cyclists can rent via Bcyclet, but swimmers have it best with the Centre Nautique Tony Bertrand less than half a mile from Mama Shelter.
Rooms at Mama Shelter, Lyon start from €125 per night.
