HOLM Restaurant & Hotel in Somerset, England
Will Ross, October 7, 2023
HOLM is a fine dining restaurant and luxurious boutique hotel situated in the heart of South Petherton in the lesser known reaches of South Somerset (south of Bristol, west of Bruton). Opened by chef-director Nicholas Balfe in 2020 as a restaurant, HOLM has since developed with the addition of seven bedrooms in 2023.
The hotel occupies a beautifully restored Georgian building, blending traditional charm with modern elegance. Originally constructed in the 18th century, the building has been meticulously renovated there’s no shortage of boutique details, without complicating the offering and rallying call from the kitchen downstairs.
Downstairs in the restaurant, the open-plan dining area and kitchen celebrates local sourcing and seasonal ingredients while minimising waste. Vegan, dairy-free and gluten-free options are included without compromise, with Somerset produce showcased.
Training Notes
Road running options are plenty from HOLM’s doorstep. Either navigate the quiet, country lanes as part of a road, run, or the more charted South Percheron Circular Route which is 20km.
For a guided road ride, cyclists can ride the eight miles to Yeovil and to tag into the group rides of Yeovil Cycling Club which take place throughout the week.
Swimmers don’t have options in South Petherton, sadly. But note Shepton Mallet’s lido which is 25 miles to the north-east by car.
