Dundreggan Rewilding Centre near Loch Ness, Scotland

, September 14, 2024

Over centuries, the natural landscape of the Scottish Highlands has been logged, overgrazed and irrigated, reducing the natural Caledonian forest to small parcels. One exists to the west of Loch Ness at Glen Affric where the Scots pine and other native species are being encouraged back thanks to work from Dundreggan Rewilding Centre and Trees for Life.

Their Instagram outlines activities which includes tree planting and tours of the rebounding forest, part of the larger initiative from Rewilding Europe to recover the Affric Highlands.

Dundreggan’s overnight accommodation is An Spiris with simple rooms starting from £85 per night.

Getting to Glen Affric by rail and bus is easy – Inverness is the nearest train station and an hour on the  the Scottish Citylink 917 gets you to the driveway of Dundreggan. Just not that it’s a request stop so let the bus driver know.
